Storms coming? Cold Returns

This time of the year we sometimes get severe weather as cold fronts move through. It's our secondary(Nov-Dec) severe weather season with Feb-Mar. being the more active severe time of the year. Highs on Tuesday may approach 80 ahead of a strong cold front. That will place us in the warm air sector with the possibility of strong late afternoon or early evening T-Storms. Wednesday & Thursday will be much colder with some rain lingering until the upper disturbance finally gets to our east on Friday. We could see some rainfall amounts in the 2-4 inch range over the next several days. This cold snap will not be as bad as the past couple. In fact, looking ahead finds a real warm spell coming for the week before Christmas. Boo hoo from Santa!

Bob, you mentioned a possibility of snow in your December 3rd blog. Well, it looks like that may happen on Thursday, Dec. 13th before we start our warm-up this weekend til Christmas. The GFS is starting to show 540 thickness over us with moisture hanging back. What are your thoughts?

Just wondering if you think we are still in for a very cold winter...even though a warm-up is expected before Christmas. Also, a rare Arctic outbreak is forecast for Southern California. For more in that go to OWSweather.com

For us on the Southshore to see snow/sleet, we 1) need to get deep into a very cold air mass & 2) need for a surface low to develop well down in the Gulf along an old front. That may happen here on Thursday morning, but I don't think surface temperatures will get cold enough. An upper disturbance will bring very cold temps aloft(up in the clouds) so we could see some sleet(ice pellets) mainly Northshore and farther east. Wanna see snow? head to the Rockies...they have lots. All signs still point to a very cold winter for most of the lower 48.

Bob say it ain't so...its gotta be cold for Christmas to feel like Christmas...nothing worse than have to run the A/C on Christmas Day... :-(
