Finally Some Relief !

After no rain for 16 consecutive days, FOX 8 finally got some rain. Not much, (.21") but some spots received over an inch. The stalled upper high has pulled back into Texas and we now should see more daytime heating storms develop for the rest of this week. We still could reach Thursday's record in Kenner (96) before the rains arrive, but I think most of us are ready for summer's typical daily storms. Audubon Park reached 104 today making this the hottest day EVER ! Before you GW alarmists say..."see, see, I told you so"...remember the SITE of measuring the Audubon Park temperature was moved after Katrina from the Golf Course (surrounded by grass) to near the river by some tennis courts and close to a Wharf. (Duh!) That's part of the problem with trying to compare current temperatures with those from the past. Not only are there far fewer reporting stations (6,000+ in 80s to 2,000+ now) but the ones remaining are located closer to cities (heat sources). Hottest ever? Perhaps, but I think we should add an *.

I just finished my 9 pm broadcast at 9:35 PM. At 9:38 PM, NWS cancels the excessive heat warning. Thanks for the heads up! A little late for FOX 8 viewers!

Excessive Heat Warning criteria no longer met, warning canceled simple, no need to bash anyone.

A trough is going to move across the Great Lakes this weekend and allow a Back door cold front to make it down here for the 1st half of Next Week. This should allow for the 1st decent chance of rain in a while for Monday-Wednesday next week as it should stall along the Gulf Coast.

FINALLY!!!

Once again CAVEMAN, you miss the point. NWS cancelled the warning at 9:38 PM meaning that FOX 8 viewers missed that information. Our 9 pm news program is the 2nd highest rated late news, sometimes challenging WWL-TV's 10 pm numbers. I think NWS could have cancelled the warning earlier knowing that Ch. 4,8 & 26 have 9 PM news programs. No bashing, just a statement of fact.

Pretty sure the NWS does not take into account nor should they local news program ratings when they issue and cancel warnings. Establish a line communication with them and they would more than likely give you heads up on warnings cancellations etc. Just seems like every other blog you post you bash or attempt to find fault in someone from other local media to basically anyone dealing with weather.

Talking to you CAVEMAN is like talking to one of my teenage children years ago...always had a smart reply. You obviously have never been in broadcasting. Years ago, NHC was taken to task for putting out their bulletins too close to program time. They understood our problem and moved the time up. Again, no bashing just stating facts. If you have no productive comments to make, then go away. I give an opinion based on experience and facts.

Ohh Pul-leese Caveman! Bob hasn't been bashing anyone, but you sure do like to bash Bob. You fall under the term of what some people like to call a Troll, If you don't know a Troll is its somebody who causes trouble and posts nonsense on Forums and Blogs, but you probably know what that is since you have "Infident Wisdom". So quit causing trouble on here or just never bother posting here again because all Bob is doing is saying how it is.

Pretty sure the NWS would not cancel a heat warning early for the sole purpose of local media and their ratings. Let's assume they did cancel it nearly 40 minutes early for the 9pm news casts, then someone dies in that same time frame from heat stroke that would not look good for them if they canceled the warning but the criteria still supported the warning to remain in place simply because because Bob Breck thought it should have been cancelled.

Caveman,
The heat index was well below 105F(criteria) by 8PM last night, across SE LA. They should have been on that and canceled it as soon as the Heat Index fell below criteria. I agree with Bob because The Average Joe doesn't go to the NWS website 20 times a day to check for updates, They listen to TV Meteorologists like Bob to get updates to see if the Heat Warning is still in effect on the evening News. I'm sure Bob wasn't the only TV Meteorologist who was aggravated with the time they canceled the Heat Warning anyway.

Meow, Meow, Ruff Ruff, Hiss Hiss...Come on Caveman...kind of an extreme point you have made with the heat stroke...so I guess if the the NWS cancelled the Heat Warning and someone did die, its the NWS or Bob's fault...Palease..
I think people know its hot...

Kind of surprised on Wednesday's rain, we didn't get any but the wind was kicking up at my home. I bought an unbrella for the pool, luckily, I had it in the down position...well the wind knocked it on its side....I have a heavy base holding it. It was an eye-opener to see it on its side leaning on the deck...water temp was 91 the other day...so this heat definitely affects the water temp....

Hope Onlyreal is correct, would be nice to get some rain!!!

I think people know its hot..." exactly people do know how hot it is so why make a big deal about a warning being canceled after his news cast ended? If they had canceled it early then someone at a softgame for example kicked the bucket from heat Bob would then be crying why did the NWS cancel it so they can't win no matter what...
