Gulf Quiet Rest of June?

Looking at long range guidance and it builds a large upper ridge over the southeast with a trough remaining off the east coast. That would keep upper northerly winds over the Gulf, steering any storms that might form away from us. Could it bring more "cold" fronts here? I hope not. Remember it was a weak frontal boundary that waddled down into the Gulf in August of 1983 and had a spin up develop that turned into Cat. 3 Hurricane Alicia. Luckily she moved away from us but clobbered Houston. Then again, I'd like a quiet year like '83 when only 4 named storms developed.

A story today now says Alabama won't accept as many hurricane evacuees like after Gustav last year. Geez, first Mississippi is closing I-10 now Alabama doesn't want us...unless it's to visit their Gulf beaches and spend money. What a country we live in ! I guess that's what's called state's rights ?

Heat wave coming next week...mid to upper 90's. Yikes!

You know Bob that is very sad. They want us to come spend our money, but do not come if you need help! The shoe could very easily be on the other foot. What happens if a hurricane comes their way? Do they want us to close our interstates? Whatever happened to southern hospitality? I think the word needs to be spread about what they may do. I wonder how many Alabama bucks come from Louisiana?

I dont see why Alabama woundn't take as many evacuees as possible....Last I remember hotel rooms are not free. Wouldn't people evacuating to Alabama be spending money at hotels and restaurants, filling their tanks with gasoline, thus creating revenue for businesses and tax revenue for the counties and state. I bet most evacuees will say the went to the coast and treated it like a 3 day vacation...

Oh I think Southern Hospitalty is alive and well, even almost 4 year later. We went to Huntsville for Katrina and we met some of the nicest people and they couldn't do enough for us...My family was with 8 other families that winded up being 11 families after it was all said and done... The people knew we were devastated from it.

Personally I am used to giving, its quite a humbling experience to receive...you don't expect it. But that makes those giving feel better about themselves...So I believe people do have plenty of heart.

Well Bob, I wouldn't expect another front this time of year, but I won't turn it down either, you saying we are expecting a heat wave...Lower humidity would be nice even if accompanied by 90 degree temps.

Bob do you think the unusual amount of fronts for this time of the year is a side effect of the lack of Sun Spots?

SEESH...Mid 90s this early? Oh well, it's a good thing I have air conditioning.

Also, on Fox 8, the anchors say it is not personal that Alabama is not taking as many out-of-state evacuees. Although I wonder what would happen if a category 4 hurricane rammed through the Alabama coast I don't think Alabama is crowded like New Jersey or Califonia.

Bourbon St Blues remember they are talking about the upcoming years not previous years. Expectation, no, but helping people in need by NOT closing the interstates, their way of escape, is not only hospitable but HUMANE.

We should deny them access to the Quarter for their football games and bachelor parties.

You guys really should read up on the specifics before you go bashing on Alabama. It actually makes a lot of sense, and it's not REFUSING hurricane evacuees, it's limiting the number allowed in Alabama SHELTERS. Nothing was mentioned about staying hotels. Go read so you quit sounding so stupid.

No one is bashing dawlin, just calling it like it is. Why limit the number of evacuees in shelters? Where do you draw the line? The last poor soul who is standing in line with four small, children or the 87 year old who has no place to go? I recommend you educate yourself in humane thinking or YOU will sound stupid. OOOPS too late, you already did. that.
