The first named storm of the 2009 Hurricane Season (Andres) is in the Pacific. Since the era of modern satellite tracking(late 70s), this is the latest forming named storm according to Dr. Steve Lyons of The Weather Channel. As long as it's in the Pacific, we don't care. In the Atlantic we continue to have strong wind shear that should prevent any storm development for the next week. The exception is over the southern Gulf where NHC is watching a weak swirl. Even if this develops, it will move into Mexico. Let's hope this pattern continues into August & September.
One bad aspect of this pattern is we stay dry and very hot. The stalled upper high should start to move slowly westward during this week. That MAY allow some afternoon daytime heating storms to bubble up. Until then, the next 2-3 days could see more record breaking heat. Use common sense if you're gonna work outside during the hottest part of the day.

Bob, my name is Monique, I am the founding director of Hike for Katreena, www.hikeforkatreena.com.,a local non-profit dedicated to replanting the the 100,000 trees we have lost in New Orleans since Katrina. A lot of the trees we have planted are not doing well do to the dry conditions. It would really help if you could ask people to water any trees they see in their neighborhood that are looking a little sluggish. Thank you.

My weather station got to 100.7 Degrees today in Metairie.
The airport also broke a record today reaching 99 Degrees beating the old tied record high of 96F in 2006 and 1970.
Coming down in buckets here in Denham. Lawn and trees are happy!!
