So Quiet It's Scary...

As major Cat. 4 Hurricane Felicia churns in the Pacific, the Atlantic Basin remains quiet. NOAA came out with their updated forecast today with no surprises...lower numbers. With El Nino continuing to strengthen, perhaps the lower numbers may end up being way too high? Let's hope so. The Corps of Engineers announced today that they may not be able to reach their announced goals of 100 year storm protection (err risk reduction) by 2011. That is not good as our luck of having no big storms before then is not great. Keep in contact with your Congressmen & Senators and push them to force the Corps to stay on schedule.

It appears a surge of tropical moisture will move northward on Saturday greatly increasing our rain chances. We have not seen the "typical summer pattern" of SE winds flowing around the Bermuda high this year. Long range computer models show this will be a brief fling as another east coast trough will develop later next week.

They always say, there is the calm before the storm....lets just hope the storms go somewhere else this year.

Are NOAA folks actual meterologists?

Oh so silly caveman...are surgeons who work in hospitals really doctors? Duh ! But not all NOAA "folks" are meteorologists just like not all "folks" who work in hospitals doctors. Am I going too fast for you? Again, I thought you had more to add to this forum than just plain dumb comments. Challenge us, enlighten us or just go away to those blogs that cater to such chatter that you seem to enjoy.

I sense caveman doesn't know how to play well with others and/or loves to stir the pot! Shame because most people come here to actually conversate about weather rather than act out their ignorance. I've been reading the Bob Blog for many months now and I have declined to comment on anything but I am really disappointed in how caveman will make such constant and ignorant commants. Nevermind him, we all are pleased with you Bob and the blog and in no way entertained by Cavemans comment. Caveman, go back to your cave, seriously friend, we're over it!

Just tossing this out here because I thought it was an interesting statistic.

Going back through the archives the last season to not have a named storm before August 7th was 1992, the year of Hurricane Andrew.

Yes Mitchell, you are correct about Caveman. For those of us who have been with the blog from the beginning know that Caveman has been sent back to his cave by Bob because he gets goofy. Then he asks Bob if he can come back and play. Good hearted Bob lets him back in the playground, but I am sensing it is time for a well needed TIME OUT.

"ignorant commants." - Mitchell too funny.

Bob anything in the pipeline to replace the WSR-88D?
