Still looking For Ana...

NHC said good-bye to TD # 2 this afternoon and cautioned that the system behind it has HIGH POTENTIAL to become our next TD and/or Tropical Storm ANA. Closer to home, a strong tropical wave flared up over Haiti and will be approaching the Gulf sometime early on Sunday. VIPIR makes that a closed circulation over the eastern Gulf as it nears us late Sunday into Monday. Will that be Ana? Or perhaps Bill? More concerned with the Atlantic system since there is an upper trough over the eastern Gulf which should limit any development there. My gut tells me NHC will make the far Atlantic system the season's 1st named storm. Computer models continue to flip-flop long range location. One run it comes into the Gulf...the next run it's up the east coast. Way to soon to speculate since it hasn't even formed yet. If we need to worry, it won't be until the end of NEXT weekend. This weekend, let's watch the eastern Gulf on Sunday. I'll update my blog daily now since it's "prime time" for hurricanes.

On another note...cold air is building over Western Canada and will pour southward into the Northern Rockies this weekend. Some snow is likely at the higher elevations ! Hope this is an early sign that Fall cold fronts will start arriving in early or mid September.

To everything there is a season. We love coffee with daily updates from Bob in late summer and early fall. You are always on top of these storms without creating too much panic. Sticking with you all the way. Thanks, Bob

I'll echo wewatchbreck...Thanks for the blog. You were comforting to watch and listen to during Gustav, a voice of hope. I would sit in Atlanta watching Fox 8 at 2AM last year on the web, as you were the one guy who gave us reason to think we might make it through this ok.

Let's get through this season (without the hurrication) ok. Fall cold fronts sound good!

Found it interesting yesterday as I drove across the Causeway. Overhead skies were clear but the cloud cover seem to hover all around the coast of Lake Pontchartrain. Is that just a coincidence or where land meets water cause clouds to form up in the atmosphere?

Was hoping see a rainbow yesterday as we got a shower around 6ish yesterday evening...but the shower must have been completely over...

Hopefully we'll see a rain shower today with a rainbow shing thru...because with the Saints season starting tonight we all know at the end of a rainbow is a black n gold... superbowl!!!

Go Saints!!!

Speaking of cooler weather, the oxalis (weeds) have already started coming up in my yard.

They're definitely a cool weather weed, and I've never seen them this early before. (They usually don't show until October.)

I'm originally from Italy and only trust you with your easy to understand/no fear forecasts...Gosh are you gonna be still doing the forecasts on major storms when ya retire?!?!
Now THAT is scary thought...if you ain't!

@LD
I hope you're right!!! Beside the threat of storms I'm ready to chill with winter weather (or at least fall) already!

Thanks for you comments. Regarding retirement...Have a contract that keeps with with FOX 8 for another 4 + years. After that, it's time to pass the baton.
