Tropical Troubles?

NHC is watching 2 systems tonight...neither of which will affect us. The first is a fast moving wave in the extreme southern Caribbean that shows some signs of development tonight. However, it will be moving on shore by daybreak and that should be the end of it. The other system is north of Puerto Rico and has flared up some this evening. NHC gives that a better chance of development and they have scheduled a plane into it tomorrow PM. If it did become Danny, the likely path would be up off the east coast following Bill's path. We still have the east coast trough over us down into the Gulf so no tropical activity is likely for the rest of this week. That means we should get thru August with no tropical threat. That will leave us with 4-5 weeks (maybe less if these cold fronts keep coming!) of watching for those big storms coming off of Africa. Remember, once into October, it is very rare to get a MAJOR hurricane to affect Louisiana (1893 & 1915 being exceptions) because the westerlies usually turn them away from us. Sure we still can get the smaller storms, but we don't have to evacuate for them. Let's hope these August fronts are a sign of an early Fall for us? For the time being, enjoy the low humidity!!!

Still a little too early for "Danny" right now he is just a large mass with no pin pointable center so models can't get a good fix until that occurs. After that BAMS and other models should be able to give us a better idea of just what he may do and go.
