Don't put Sweaters Away Just Yet...

The retail stores are already out with their Spring fashions, but despite the current Spring-like temperatures, history tell us we are not done with the cold. Computer models indicate we'll stay mild to warm for the rest of this month into the 1st week in March. I suspect, just as we get to the major Mardi Gras parades, we'll go back to a colder pattern. The good news is by then we'll be beyond the "pipe-busting" cold time period and any freezes will be minor. It is far too early to start planting your tomatoes outside. The unofficial rule is to wait until after March 15th on the South Shore and after March 30th on the North Shore. We still can get some frosts as late as the 1st week in April, but that is rare.

This week our highs will be around or above 70 with nights around or above 50. No rain is likely but morning fog will be increasingly probable as the Gulf muggies return.

Looks like it is almost time to turn our concerns away from freezes and towards the impending 2011 Hurricane Season. Hopefully it will be a very mild one. I cruise once a year and hate the thought of a hurricane re-routing the ship.
