Let the Season Begin...

Even before the season starts, the Alarmists (Dr. Masters) are at it trying to get the first tropical system going down in the Caribbean. It's bad enough that we have increased stress with the start of the season, but we have people almost seemingly happy that something could be forming. Looking at satellite loops clearly show very strong wind shear down over the Caribbean and that is probably why NHC isn't even talking about it...and neither will I. Historically the first 6-8 weeks of the season are quiet over the Gulf with only 9 named storms recorded in June during the past 100+ years.

Our current dry spell is taking a toll on plants, trees & lawns. No immediate relief appears in sight until this weekend. Only isolated PM showers around as highs will flirt with records Wed-Thursday.

Well Bob if you were the good meteorologist that you claim to be, then you could inform the public about the potential of development without startling the people. Its better than not letting them know, and if something were to form, springing it all of a sudden on the public. But look who has the doctorate in meteorology Dr. Masters, so you should not critique what he is doing because you don't have a doctorate.

Bob, why should we listen to you about the Caribbean system? You said Hurricane Katrina was going up the East Coast and we all know you were right...

Geez, what did these folks have for dinner. 4 more dead from another tornado hitting a city and all they want to do is complain about one's opinion. Time to get a life folks and go to another blog.

These guys are ridiculous.!

Well I for one am grateful for Bob's expertise not only during severe weather but all year long for his ACCURATE forecasting. I depend on his forecasts daily and have to say, he is rarely wrong.

Ha Nashette, you mustn't have watched Bob in the active hurricane years like 2004 and 2005. Bob freaked out for Hurricane Ivan and it was almost comical. Yet he claims he doesn't hype anything and makes people scared. For Katrina he was to lackadaisical toward a deadly hurricane. Bob is non consistent in his forecasting.

All of the local meteorologists approached Ivan with urgency. The forecast track from the NHC had Ivan directly impacting the city. There was very little variation in the track for about 4 days before it made landfall. Ivan actually maintained that course before veering off to the East shortly before land fall. The only time I recall Bob even coming close to freaking out was during the evacuation and then it was because of how it was being handled at the time and not because of the storm.

For Katrina, I didn't see anyone take it seriously until late Friday or early Saturday before the storm hit. Katrina was initially tracked for the east coast of Florida by the NHC and it gradually shifted to the West. Nobody knew where it was really going until it was about three days out.

Bob has always been consistent with his forecasting in regards to the data he has available at the time. Just like anything else, you have to apply a little common sense and take responsibility for actions you take based on the information you receive. If you don't like his forecasting, find a meteorologist you feel you can rely on.

Well, Ananymous I disagree. I think Bob is very consistent....For Katrina Margaret Orr was the one freaking out, climbing over the desk in the newsroom. and....we also should not forget how many extra hours weather people must work in severe weather. We are at home watching but he is at work!

Just for reference, Bob, there have been 45 tropical/subtropical storms in June in the Gulf of Mexico in the last 100 years. Try to get simple facts right.

Bob Breck is the only reason i evacuated for Katrina. I wouldn't listen to friends or family. My stubborn self wouldn't get out of bed. I told my friends that if Bob told me to go, I'd listen. He did. I did. He's awesome. Haters need to hate themselves b/c they're the ones that suck.
