On The Gulf Watch...

We all fear those long track hurricanes that begin off Africa and create anxiety for days as they march our way. We're still about 3-4 weeks away from that time of the year. Being older than most means I have experienced history the young folks haven't...which brings to mind the summer of 1983. That year we kept having deep east coast troughs that brought cool fronts down to the Gulf South. On the tail end of one of those front, a weak low formed off the LA. coast and headed westward. Within 2 days it exploded into a Cat. 3 Alicia and battered downtown Houston with 115 mph winds. What do we have now? Yep another east coast trough that is forcing a front deep into the Gulf South. With the upper ridge to our west, upper disturbances are rotating down from the north, much like they did back in 1983. We need to be on the watch for the next 2-3 days in case one of these disturbances tries to turn into something once over the Gulf. It that happens, much like in 1983 it would head wetward away from us.

In the short term, our rain chances should be above normal for another couple of days hopefully keeping down our afternoon highs. Slow moving storms will again produce rainfall of 1-3" with maybe some more waterspouts. Stay tuned!

Now if the Weather Channel or NWS said this you would be jumping all over them.
