Alberto Says Adios...

As I mentioned last Friday, it looked like the season's 1st named storm would form & indeed Alberto was named.  Wind shear has quickly attacked Alberto and tonight he was downgraded to a depression. Strong wind shear continues to cover the Caribbean & Gulf so if anything does form during the next 7-10 days, it will be swept far to our south and east.  There have been 8 named storms (since 1950) before the official start of the hurricane season (June 1st), but in those 8 seasons, the total numbered average 12 storms or right at the long term average.  So early season storms do NOT predict an active year.

Another weak cold front will be near us on Tuesday and hopefully will increase our cloud cover & rain chances.  With mostly summy skies yesterday, we tied the record high(92) in Kenner.   Later this week, an upper high is expected to develop over the eastern states so more record heat is likely.
