Half Way Thru Winter...

Jan. 15th marks the mid point of "meteorological" winter (Dec,Jan,Feb), historically the 3 coldest months of the year.  So far we have had a fairly mild time with no freezes on the South Shore, some minor freezes north & west.  But that maybe about to change as a deep upper trough over the western states is predicted to shift to the east coast.  The question remains....how deep will the trough be over the east?  The coldest air in many years has moved out of Alaska (Fairbanks was above freezing today!) and has shifted into central & eastern Canada.  If the eastern trough deepens down to the Gulf coast next week, we could see a freeze even on the South Shore.  Regardless, it appears our brief fling with Spring (70s Sat & Sun) is over for the next 2-3 weeks and the focus will be 1) how cold will it get and 2) how far south will snow fall "IF" we get a Gulf low to develop.  Could get exciting here.  Stay tuned!

darn... models are showing cold enough for snow, but moisture gone before it actually gets cold enough... oh well :( maybe a few flakes will still fly through the air tomorrow night right at the tail end?

I just went to www.weatherchannel.com and for Picayune, MS it says some snow showers for Wednesday night. How accurate is this????
