Another Weekend, Another Disturbance in Gulf...

If you remember, only a week ago folks were getting nervous about a weak system down over the Yucatan that was supposed to develop except there was an upper low over the Central Gulf.  Fast forward to this weekend and we find NHC is giving a cluster of T-Storms in the Eastern Gulf a 10% chance to develop.   Does it have any chance?   Based on what we’ve been seeing this Hurricane Season, I’d have to say no as once again we have an upper low south of where a weak mid level circulation exists tonight.   I expect whatever is there to continue its westward motion as an “open wave” and bring some heavy rainfall to areas mainly along the coast Friday & Saturday.  Gulf boating will be difficult as winds will be 15-25 with seas offshore 4-6’+.    Things should settle down to basic summertime by Sunday into next week.

There are several tropical waves heading off of Africa, & since the MJO will be heading into the favorable (rising air) phase, I expect to finally see activity increase during next week. Stay tuned!
