Welcome 2014

Before I look ahead, sometimes it helps to look back at where we've been.  2013 had some active weather events, but fortunately nothing like the destructive storms that caused many in our population to flee and never return.  We escaped without any major freezes, any widespread flooding and most importantly NO Hurricanes!   As we complete the 1st month of "meteorological" Winter, it's been cold with some freezes mainly on the North Shore, but no real issues south of Lake P.   That may change now that we are in January and some of the coldest air in several years hovers just north of the lower 48.   We must stay alert during the next 7-10 days as any dip in the jet stream would certainly bring a moderate to hard freeze threat that could result in damaging plants & freezing pipes.   The 1st cold blast arrives Thursday PM bringing freezing temps to the North Shore on Friday AM, but the stronger surge won't get here until late Sunday into Monday of next week.   That means we'll have time to prepare our yards & houses this weekend, if you haven't already.

I'm back on FOX 8 Thursday PM and will focus on the coming freeze plus the weather the Saints must face this Saturday in Philadelphia.  I'm excited to get back in the saddle as it appears old Man Winter will be coming on full force during the next 2-3 weeks.   The new year promises some exciting forecast challenges and "Gramps" is ready to bring it on!
