Let the Season Begin

I have mentioned in the past that the way weather works is in CYCLES or patterns that sometimes can last a few days, a few weeks or even a few months.  Take this past hurricane season as an example.  The pattern was established early on that wind shear plus a dry  Saharan dust layer would limit tropical development.   There was one brief burst of storms late in the season, but the CYCLE of no major Hurricane crossing the U.S. coast continues.  Same may hold true for this winter.  Early season snow cover promotes more cold air that promotes more snow cover farther and farther to the south.  This would make it the 3rd straight cold & snowy winter.   Ski resorts are making snow and opening BEFORE Thanksgiving.   The only thing that Mother Nature needs to change is the CYCLE of dry weather (drought) for much of California.  It appears storms will be headed that way in a few days to help out the winter crops.

For us, the rest of this week will be much colder.  Today’s high of 80 may be the last one until next year?   The next 3-4 days will struggle to get out of the 50s and sweaters, jackets & coats will be required.  I’ll be watching to see if a “Gulf low” forms late Saturday night into Sunday.  That would bring us our best rain chances in weeks.  Stay tuned!

It always seems like when we get these cold snaps, you preface by saying the core of the cold should stay to our North...always seems to be that way for us...still nice to get some colder, low humidity air in here...

I do expect some time over this winter we will have that SW flow that keeps the cold fronts from getting through our area....

I always hope is cold for Thanksgiving, just makes it feel like the season...plus I like to put my Christmas lights up in cold weather....just puts me in the zone...

Keep us updated here, its my source of weather...
