More Heavy Rains Coming...

Today’s surprising hail storm produced some of the largest hail I’ve seen here during the past 37+ years.  Usually the freezing level here is so high up (10-12,000+ feet) that any hail usually melts or is so small not to have much impact.   Not today as golf to tennis ball size hail was documented in numerous pictures sent in to FOX 8.  I don’t expect that to happen again tomorrow, but computer models are indicating widespread heavy rainfall throughout much of the day.  Our Flash Flood Watch has been extended through Friday and may linger into Saturday.  Again we’ll need to pay attention to any training type storms as our saturated soils can’t handle more moisture.  Street flooding is highly likely so restrict your driving during the heavier storms.  When will we see relief?   Maybe for the second half of the weekend when some drier air pushes in.  It will take a change in the upper pattern that currently has a low over the Rockies (giving them snow) with a SW flow bringing the sub-tropical jet stream right over us.    With the rains this week, we are approaching cracking the top ten wettest Aprils ever…and we have 2 weeks to go!  Stay tuned!
