Breck is Back...

Most of my broadcasting generation has either retired, been fired or died.  Fortunately, I  am not a member of those clubs…yet.   I return on-air Monday at 4 PM after 2 wonderful weeks of vacation where I stayed away from keeping up with the daily weather.   I had a rather expensive & unproductive (high river, windy, T-Storms) fishing trip down to Venice and then spent 5 great days in California wine country (Healdsburg-Sonoma).   One thing I did learn is their drought is not bad for the wine growers.  To the contrary, the wine grapes get sweeter when stressed so the lack of rainfall has produced 4 straight years of great tasting wines.  If it rains a lot, the grapes fill with too much water & they are not as sweet.  Makes sense, but it’s a story that is never told.  All we hear about is the terrible drought, and it is terrible for most farmers…but not the vineyards.

We have finished the 1st week of hurricane season with a quiet Atlantic which should stay that way for most of June.   The eastern Pacific has already seen 2 powerful hurricanes and that is OK.  Usually, IF the eastern Pacific is active, the Atlantic Basin is quiet.   I even read where one hurricane forecaster is calling for ZERO landfalling hurricanes in the Gulf and ZERO landfalling hurricanes for all of the U.S. coastlines.   Pretty bold predictions.  That would be nice if they prove correct.   See you on FOX 8 Monday at 4 PM.
