Drought Returns, Need Weekend Rains...

The U.S. Drought monitor that’s updated every Thursday places parts of south Louisiana back in the “moderate” category today.  Our lack of rainfall dates back to late May as the past 3 months are running nearly 9’ below average/normal.  With this coming at the time of the year that is historically our hottest time, it doesn’t take long for soil moisture to evaporate.  We have one more very hot & mostly dry day on Friday before rain chances finally increase for this weekend.  This uptick in rain chances won’t last but a few days before we go back into a dry pattern for early next week.   Let’s hope we get many “gully-washers” or “frog stranglers” to help our lawns and gardens plus keep our temperatures a little less hot.  We are nearing a record for the most 90+ degree days in a row.  Usually, in a normal summer, tropical waves rotating around the Bermuda High arrive every 3-4 days lowering our temps a bit.  That hasn’t been happening this year.

 

There are still no signs that the Tropical Atlantic will erupt with activity during the next 7-10 days. Stay tuned!
