Thanksgiving Timing is Perfect

As we celebrate a day to give thanks for all our blessings, it seemed appropriate to announce my future plans at FOX 8.  I will be retiring on February 26, 2016 after 38 mostly great years at Ch. 8.   I have decided to leave the stress of everyday weathercasting for a more predictable relaxation of retirement.    I have many hobbies (golf, fishing, gardening) and will certainly do lots of traveling, something I couldn’t do with the restrictions of rating periods & Hurricane Season.    Will I miss it?  I don’t think so since there is so much information out there on the internet that wasn’t around just 10 years ago.    I will still be available during the 2016 Hurricane Season if a storm threatens the Gulf.   My journey is not lock in yet and I am waiting to see which direction life calls me.   As Yogi once said…”when you get to the fork in the road…take it!”  Thanks to everyone for their kind comments.  I treasure the friendships I’ve developed over the years even if we have never met.   I have never taken your trust for granted.  Thanks.

We could not have asked for a better weather forecast for the next 2-3 days.  Perhaps a stray shower or two may develop, but no widespread rains are likely before next week.   Gone is the chill of earlier this week and back are the muggies with highs in the 70s.  Morning fog could be a problem over the weekend when winds should diminish.  Stay tuned!

We'll miss your common sense and lack of drama during hurricane season but I'm sure the decision to leave is hard but an excellent one (we hope) for you and your Family. God bless you and your family forever :-) Laura,Pat, Roxanne and Jonathan (Settoon) Patterson

Congratulations on your retirement! You've earned it.

One question. Will you continue to post to this blog after your retirement? I enjoy reading your comments.

I have been watching you since I was a kid. I am now 31 and have moved to Denver, but I still follow your website. I happened to be in town this week visiting family and saw your announcement. I'm sad to see you go, but hope you enjoy your retirement.

I am 48 yrs old, and as a kid, grew up watching Nash... As I grew into adulthood, and Nash retired, there was a MAJOR VOID... untill YOU, Bob... Man, you became MY GENERATION'S NASH ROBERTS... I became your BIGGEST fan of my family... My mother always said there will NEVER be another Nash... untill about 10 yrs ago when I got her hooked on YOU. When I told her about your retirement, she ALMOST cried...

Bob, if you ENJOY what you are doing, and it STILL APPEARS THAT YOU DO, why NOT stay on AT LEAST PART TIME for all the people here that LOVE YOU AND ARE ALMOST *ADDICTED* TO YOU?!

I know mother told me about my dad....its one thing to retire, but you have to retire to something else...to fill the void. Robear I am sure he has given retirement much thought....I agree part time would be great...Bob is my weatherman...I like the way he has given his forecasts used satellite to explain the weather....no one else does i like Bob....he will be missed...

Of course I want you to have a long and happy retirement. That being said, very unhappy to lose you. Have been a fan from your start in new Orleans when I still lived in my parents home in Lakeview. You and Nash, two in a million. Janine
