No Snow in Buffalo...

Lack of snow is the big topic up north.   Cities (Toronto, Detroit, Green Bay, Chicago & Buffalo etc.) that normally have lots of snow in December have none on the ground tonight.  In fact, Buffalo still hasn’t recorded any snow at all breaking the record for latest (Dec. 3rd)  ever.   What does it all mean?    Not much except weather usually runs in cycles and this December is off to a very warm start for most of the eastern 2/3 of the country.  That cycle is likely to reverse for the second half of the month which should mean many snowless spots tonight will enjoy a White Christmas.  Will the cool down reach us?  Not during the next 10-14 days.  We’ll see some cooling late Sunday into Monday but no Arctic blasts are in sight this far south.  Plenty of cold air is up in Northern Canada & Alaska.  It will come visit us sooner or later.  Don’t put those heavy coats away as I think we’ll see a much colder time in January & February.  Figures since Mardi is early this year.  Stay tuned!   FYI…I have lots of vacation time this month.

Just have to wonder if we will ever see winter here...early forecasts said we would have a cold and wet winter and so far Oct, Nov and Dec have seen warm weather and few cold fronts and the ones that have don't last long....This warm weather sure doesn't make it feel like the holiday season is upon us...

Taps fingers on desk patiently waiting for cold weather....80 is to warm for December....

But 80 is NOT all that unusual for December down here.... Ive lived here in South Louisiana my entire life.... and can remember MANY instances where is was in the 80's in December...

what's unusual in my opinion is the long stretch of warm weather, 70-75-80 since October...

...and many leaves still on trees approaching the shortest day of the year!
