Remembering Will...More than a thrill

As you all know, the little fella could never play football with the big bruisers.   But back in the mid 2000s, I was chairing a fundraiser for Big Brothers/Big sisters and was fortunate to meet Will Smith, the defensive end for the New Orleans Saints.   Will was from The Ohio State University and us Michigan grads usually don’t like OSU players.   But Will was different.  Will got involved in our community and came to several Big Brothers/Big Sisters functions.  What a class act he was.  Never the snobby football star, but rather the role model that young children looked up to.  He really liked our town and the town liked him back.   It’s always sad to see senseless killings  of young people who have so much to live for.  Sure, Will could no longer play football, but he was so much more than football.  His life now Was mentoring young children including his own.   He was way more than a former football player.  He was a man, a husband, a father and a friend to many. I feel so fortunate to have known Will.  He will be remembered for his toughness on the field but also for his gentleness off the field.  The city has lost a true friend who had so many great years left to make this a better place. Will Smith, God Speed until we meet again

Weather wise, it appeared our beautiful weekend will turn rainy for much of this week.  We are about 4-6 weeks away until the heat of summer settles in.   I’m enjoying my yard work along with fishing and golfing.   Retirement is proving to e a blast    Stay tuned!
