The center of Hurricane Nate never made it to 90 degrees west longitude. He’s now making a beeline towards the MS/AL coast and our hurricane warning has been dropped. I’ve read several comments regarding the GFS & Euro models predicting Nate to come in west of the mouth of the river & why did NHC keep saying the track would stay to the east? Perhaps experienced human forecasters can still do better than computers? Bravo NHC! No need to go into great detail tonight as Nate is no longer our storm. I’ll be curious to see the final storm surge numbers that were predicted to be 7-11’ on the east side of the River. Lake Pontchartrain was forecasted to have a 3-5’ surge but from what I saw, the Lake waters didn’t get very high. It’s easy to nitpick looking back. Let’s be thankful it wasn’t as bad as predicted. All is not over for our friends to the east of Gulfport & Biloxi. They’ll have a long night of heavy rains and gusty winds. Nate should be inland by 11 PM but he won’t be done bringing misery to the Southeast. His heavy rains & possible tornadoes will head northward towards Atlanta & up the east coast.
With none of the models indicating anymore tropical activity in the Gulf for the next 10-14 days, I have placed a call into the “Fat Lady’s” agent to book her for next week. Not sure where she’s been, but I heard she had a gig up in Branson. I think the end is finally here my friends, but it’s not over until the “Fat Lady” sings. Stay tuned!
