Missed the Snow...But There Could be More?

OK, I was going to post on Friday as I sat by the pool overlooking  Banderas Bay in Puerto Vallarta, but I didn’t want to celebrate my good fortune of being out of town (really the country) during our coldest week of the season so far.    I saw the pictures & the videos of folks enjoying the white stuff and that was good enough for me.   Now I want it to warm up again so we can get back to golfing & fishing.  However, watching David tonight explain more fronts are coming, it appears sweaters & jackets will be needed for most of this week.  The current pattern is a old one with a west coast ridge and east coast trough.  What I’m not seeing is any super cold except way up in central Canada.  However,  if this upper pattern lingers, we’re likely to see some of that Arctic chill remain over most of the east and south through Christmas.   Could that mean another opportunity for snow?  Maybe.  But we would need to see the cold build deeper into the South with a Gulf low developing spreading moisture back over the surface cold.     Way too soon to say that will happen, but Mother Nature often has a way of repeating herself.   Think how often we’ve seen back to back hurricanes?  As the song says…”I’m dreaming of a White Christmas.”  Stay tuned!

Ok, people.... I made this observation a few yrs ago.... right after that little cat 1 hurricane named Issac that sat over us for 3 days back in 2012.... Has anyone else noticed that *ALOT OF TIMES, WHEN WE GET SNOW DOWN HERE, THE FOLLOWING SUMMER, WE HAVE A HURRICANE? The winter of 2004, we had snow on CHRISTMAS DAY.... about 2 inches... and the summer of 2005..... we had KATRINA !!!!. *AND* RITA....!..... the summer of 2011, WE HAD SNOW AND A LITTLE ICE STORM HERE.... then the summer of 2012, we had ISSAC.... Back in 97 we had snow here.... THEN THE SUMMER OF 98 WE HAD HURRICANE GEORGES .... I WAS A CHILD BACK IN 72.... BUT WE HAD A FEW INCHES OF SNOW HERE.... AND THE NEXT SUMMER, I REMEMBER WE HAD A HURRICANE SCARE ........ CANT REMEMBER THE NAME, BUT REMEMBER RIDING IT OUT WITH MY PARENTS AT THE AGE OF 5 .... I did a little bit of research, and the winter of 1968, we had a little snow event down here..... and the Summer of 1969, we had Hurricane Camille..... Hey Bob..., do a little research if you dont mind, and check on if we had ANY snow down here in 64, to see if Betsy in 1965 had any ties to snow.....

However, we had Hurricane Nate in 2017 without any snow in 2016. Hummm!

Bob, saw models hinting at some more wintry stuff around Christmas/day after.... GFS seems to be sluggish bringing the cold air further southeast (last few runs). What's your gut feeling on the cold for Christmas?

It happens either the winter before or after a hurricane. We had Gustav in '08 and then had the December 11,2008 snow.
