Almost Great Parade Weather...

If you didn't mind the strong, gusty winds, today was a perfect day to watch a parade.  We still are over 2 weeks from Mardi Gras and the long range models are starting to give us a clue what MIGHT happen for Fat Tuesday.  RIGHT NOW, it looks to be sunny, breezy but very cold with morning lows in the 30s and highs struggling to get into the 50s.  A lot can change so don't place any bets on that outlook.  This week will begin very mild with highs 75-80 Monday-Wednesday.  Our next cold front sweeps through Thursday morning cooling us back down into the 50s, but only for 2 days.  Next weekend will see another warm up which will be the pattern ( up and down) leading towards Mardi Gras.

High pressure is moving off the east coast and satellite pictures show the low level moisture rotating around Florida across the Gulf and into Louisiana.  The main energy for this week's rain is moving into southern California and, although we'll have shower chances each day, our best rain probability comes Wednesday night into early Thursday.

NWS now says the heaviest rain threat this week is farther to our north, but no rainfall is welcomed or needed.   The super cold (40-50 below zero) still lingers over northern Canada and models bring some of that chill to us for Mardi Gras.  Finally, yesterday's snowfall just north and east of Atlanta shows up as a bright white area.

Late February into March often brings the nation some of our greatest Winter storms.  The next several weeks look to be full of weather excitement.  Stay tuned!
