Cooler & Brighter, But Not For Long...

After yesterday's brief warm up, we have turned much colder and drier behind a cold front.   Some filtered sunshine is making for a seasonally cool December afternoon, but the clouds will return for the weekend.

The top photo shows how lucky we are seeing sunshine since clouds are surrounding us.  The bottom view is the water vapor that shows the weak "kink" over Missouri that helped force the cold front by us.  However, look back to Texas and another upper low shows up.  That SW upper flow pattern will bring back the clouds on Saturday with a few Showers on Sunday before another cold front clears us out for next week.

Our over night rainfall averaged about 1/2 an inch and with the current low dew points, I don't expect the Sunday showers to give us very much (.25"?) at all.

One thing that stands out to me is the current storm track brings the Gulf moisture northward with the eastern states getting all the rain while the West Coast stays dry.

In addition, there is no super cold over the East while the West is rather chilly.   There are signs we should see colder temps. over the eastern states in the 10-14 day time frame.  For me, this is as cold as I want it.   I don't mind 35-40 at night and 55-60 during the day.  It's a nice change from our Summer heat, plus it means no hurricanes!   I just hate when we get an Arctic blast that brings down teens & 20s with a wind that knifes through you.  I moved south to get away from that.  Enjoy your weekend as we watch a Nor'easter pound New England with rain, wind and snow.  Stay tuned!

Bob, What kind of storm season do you see for us next year? Any chance we will be in an El Niño pattern?
Thanks,
