After 12 days of having nothing to do and all day to do it, it was actually fun to be back forecasting weather again. Sure it was a crappy day, but that will only make us appreciate those nice warm March & April days coming in another 6-8 weeks. Since I don't work outdoors, today's 40 degree temps actually felt OK because I was dressed for it and didn't have to stand out waiting for a bus in 15-20 mph winds. But for many I know today was cold, wet & RAW !!! Better weather is on tap for tomorrow as the rains will shift south & east and clearing skies approach from the west & north. Highs will still require sweaters & jackets as we not see 60+ again until somethime next week.
During the past 2 weeks, the U.S. Snow Cover increased from 37% of the country to 62%. Some of the drought areas in the plains got snow but they need way more to fight their way back to normal/average. As the snow melts, that should help start raising the water levels in the Mississippi River farther to our north. Hopefully the current storm track stays around and brings more rainy/snowy weather? Stay tuned!
