Tuesday Thunder & Tropical Downpours

Kenner (MSY) finally got in on the July rain act receiving over an inch (1.03”) but that is hardly representative of SE LA/MS.  MSY now has reached 2.99” for the month, but many of my weather observers, including FOX 8 (7.23”), have totaled over 7”.  We remain in a fetch of tropical moisture flowing around the Bermuda High so expect more heavy downpours Tuesday before we see fewer showers later this week.   As the MJO goes into a less favorable (sinking air) mode for the next 10-14 days, don’t expect much tropical activity.  However, there is a well defined swirl down over the southern Gulf that could be an upper low working its way down to the surface.  With the surface Atlantic Ridge building westward, if anything did try to develop, it should be steered westward into Mexico or south Texas.  Stay tuned!
