It's Over, Done, Fina, Bye

Last week NHC came out with their numbers on this year’s Hurricane season and boasted (rightfully so) that it turned out as predicted…slightly below the long term average/normal.   However, what they didn’t say is that once again, for the 9th year in a row (longest streak ever), no major hurricane (Cat.3+) crossed the U.S. coastline and Florida hasn’t had a landfall in 9 years.   Getting close on estimating the total number for this year does not to me verify skill level since the previous several years have totally busted.  More importantly, it’s not the total numbers that are important.  Rather, being able to predict LOCATION would be far more useful and that appears to have little skill.   So let’s be grateful that 2014 was quiet over the northern Gulf and realize that the law of averages will eventually return and we’ll need to be prepared as always next summer.

December is off to a mild start, although a cold front will get close on Tuesday.  That front will return northward later this week and we should stay mild through the weekend.  Looking into next week…it appears the east coast trough will return bringing back the Arctic air to much of the eastern half of the country.   This is a good time of the year to get your yard and house ready for the coming freezes that appear to be likely for the next 2-3 months.  I’ve been feeling great and will return on-air to FOX 8 Tuesday at 4 PM.
