Fishing Fun Before Wednesday's Storms

Spent the past two days with Captain Johnny Lewis & Hylton Petit fishing around Shell Beach & Hopedale.  Our 2 day totals didn't come close to the limits, but the variety of fish was outstanding.  I caught & released a 30" redfish and also caught a 4 lb. bass.  Hylton had the biggest trout (20") while Johnny caught a huge sheepshead.  What was surprising was the number of smaller fish that we threw back.  Thought we would do better ahead of a major weather change, but all in all, it was a fun trip.

Now it's back to focusing on the severe weather potential for late tonight into most of Wednesday.  SPC has a level 3 (enhanced) risk covering areas to our NW today, but they move that right over us tomorrow.

The trigger for that possible outbreak is the western trough kicking out across the Rockies that couples with the southern sub-tropical jet creating a split (yellow circle) that enhances rising air.

Tornado Watches have been up all day to our west & north.  The 1st batch of storms will stay well to our north, but models are indicating a strong line of storms will reform ahead of the cold front arriving late Wednesday PM.

As you can see, IF the model is correct, our severe threat won't arrive until Wednesday afternoon & evening.   I grabbed these views from Hannah Gard's 4 PM program.

 While we're in the warm air sector, there is a blizzard raging over the Rockies into the Plains.  Winter is on the back side of this system and we'll finally break our long (12 days) stretch of way too warm weather.

This front will get us feeling more like Christmas.  Nothing extreme, but you'll  need sweaters & coats again.  But before the front arrives tomorrow, make sure your FOX 8 Weather App is updated and ready to alert you if NWS issues warnings.  Let's pay attention and hope any storms avoid us.  Stay tuned!
