Much Needed Soaker, Much Colder Weekend...

My rain gauge recorded 1.68" so far making this the greatest rainfall in 5+ weeks.  My yard soaked it up like a sponge.  The real strong storms have pushed well to our east with only a few lingering showers to our west.  The temperatures have already dropped into 40s to our west and you'll need sweaters and coats for the next several days.

Cold air is pouring down out of Canada and we'll see a secondary surge move in later tomorrow.  Most of the New England remains very mild ahead of this front, but most of the northern Plains will go well below freezing.  Some near freezing temps could dip over parts of the North Shore for Sunday night into Monday.

Today's cold front is not a 'clean" front as the upper flow will remain WSW.  I've drawn that flow on the Water Vapor View.  IF we continue to have clouds stream over us, that means we'll struggle to get out of the 40s on Saturday.

That upper low over the Baja could bring us some showers during the day tomorrow.

So the real question is...will we need to worry about covering our tender plants this weekend?

IF you live south of Lake P., I don't see a problem as Lake waters are 60+ and winds will be coming off the Lake.   The far North Shore into southern Mississippi could have to cover up for Monday IF the cloud cover leaves and winds die down.  We'll give it another look tomorrow.  Enjoy your weekend & may your Irish Happy Hour last all night!  Stay tuned!
