Arctic Cold Setting Sites for Most Of Nation, Freeze Threat Tuesday Thru Thursday.

There hasn't been any change to the thinking regarding the coming cold.  It's been well advertised (as Elvis points out) by computer models, but that's not my thing.   Next you'll want me to tell you about the 2024 hurricane season!  (Early signs hints at super active).  This blog is for storytelling, not for speculating. With that said,  let's get into what's coming.  Nicondra had this graphic at 4 PM that tells us why this coming cold is so unusual.  It doesn't happen very often.

So why is this hard freeze threat coming?  Let's begin with the afternoon temps. up over Canada.

It's super cold (30-40 below) up there an any dip in the upper pattern brings the cold south.  Here's the upper air.

The upper trough is shifting out of the Rockies to over the Great Lakes.  Unlike what the models said 2 weeks ago about the "Polar Vortex", it never really shifts out of Canada until NEXT weekend.  Sure we'll get freezing temps., but the coldest air may not arrive until NEXT weekend.  The top satellite view has the current pattern with the next views going day to day into next Thursday.  Bottom line, look at the flow, straight out of the frozen tundra of Canada.

As I mentioned yesterday, the cold will come in waves.  The super cold (20-30 below) is up in Montana, but Texas is 15-20 degrees colder than us and that's our weather for Saturday.

It's also much drier (lower dew points) air so, if you're dressed for it, Saturday & Sunday here will be very nice.

Finally, for you snow geeks, there is a very small window of opportunity that the precip. may briefly go over to sleet/snow on the Northshore next week.

Don't bet the house, but some hope is better than no hope!  Stay tuned!
