So When Will The Rain End? When The Upper Trough Gets To East Coast...

Hey Gang, today was ugly, but it could have been a lot worse.  I was concerned this morning (I was wrong) that a band of rain moving across the North Shore would stall and create a "training effect" over the South Shore. But the ban offshore our coast south of Morgan City & Houma did not come over NOLA, instead staying along the coast.  Look at the radar views. The top view is 11 AM, with the second being from 3 PM.

The bottom two are from 4:30 showing the axis of the line approaching Mobile bay extending off the mouth of the River to our south.  The concern is that boundary will retrograde back to the west over night as another upper disturbance rounds the upper tough.

Any small shift back to the west brings the heavy rain threat back over us as model rain totals predict.

Nicondra showed us the model timing at 4 PM.

Model has several bands/lines of storms capable of creating the training effect with the more pronounced line being south of metro NOLA.   So when will this ever end?  Let's look where the upper trough ends up. The top view is the current set up with a general trough over the Rockies and a ridge over the Southeast.  The next view is valid for Saturday morning with the trough sharpening.

Even Saturday morning we still have the upper flow from the SW.  Finally, the bottom view is valid for Saunday morning with the trough centered over Ohio/PA. and our flow back to the WNW.  That will end the rain threat and bring us cooler and drier air.  But that's not until Sunday! Look at the huge cloud shield!

Much of the country is above freezing this final week in January with 60+ as far north as Louisville & 70+ to Atlanta.

Areas to our west (Lake Charles & Houston) got into some sunshine and temps popped into the 70s.

So the next 2 days will continue to be warm and off/on wet before the front clears us out for late Saturday evening.  It gets chilly behind the front, but the air is of Pacific origin.  Are we done with freezes?

Not so fast Weather Breath!  The Arctic cold (40-50 below) is reloading back over Alaska.  I'll be watching out for the Polar Vortex to return over the Great Lakes during the next 2-3 weeks.  We're not done with Winter yet.  Finally, the bottom view is the water area at Rouses yesterday.  Totally cleaned out due to the water break.  At least with a hurricane, we get some warning so we can fill up our tubs to flush our toilets.  Water break? vs Hurricane?  I'm going with the water break!  Stay tuned and pay attention to radar views tonight into Saturday.
