Bubba Is On Life Support, Other Plants Knocked Down Too

As temps. approached 80 today, I got out and did some yard inspection.  The Dan Gill Rule of thumb is "Do NOT start cutting back on your damaged plants until they start to show some new growth/sprouts."  That way you don't cut them back too much.  Well, I have some bad news.  Bubba, my 5 year old Crown of Thorns, is on life support.  Before the freeze, Bubba was over 5 feet tall.  Now? Well, you take a look.

I showed you his last flower and how I was going to cover him during the freeze threats.  For 4 years, I moved him into my heated He-Shed and he lost leaves but always came back.  At age 76, I can't move him anymore since he's too heavy.   Are you ready?  Here's Bubba now.

Yeah, pretty sad, but there is still some green.   Let's see if the longer days and warmer temps. coming will revive my beloved Bubba?!!!  My potted bougainvilleas didn't do so well either along with my variegated Ginger.

Again, follow Dan Gill's advice, don't overcut back.  OK, back to parade weather. Unlike what I heard at noon on a certain channel that rhymes with "soar", the weather "is NOT changing minute to minute.  Remember what we looked at yesterday.  The main rainfall will stay to our north & west on Saturday with late Sunday AFTER DARK being the highest rain chances into early on Monday.  That hasn't changed. Here's why.

The upper flow hasn't changed.  There's a blocking ridge over the Southeast that will slow down a frontal boundary from coming our way.  Rain chances on Saturday aren't zero, but any showers will be brief and not lasting very long.  The Weather Prediction Center yesterday had the heaviest rain band across north Louisiana and that hasn't changed.

The way I see it, IF all works out, the heaviest rains come after 10 PM Sunday night ending before daybreak on Monday.  Here's the latest GFS model run. The top graphic is the upper air currently with a trough over the Rockies.

The 2nd is Sunday morning followed by Sunday evening and then Monday midday.  that's when the upper trough passes by.  Mardi Gras will turn sunny, but noticeably cooler.

Nicondra had the latest GFS model run at 4 PM.

It will rain this weekend, but for most parade watchers, it'll be mostly dry most of the time.

That 60% on Sunday is after dark and, hopefully after Bacchus is finished.  Let the party roll Gang!  Stay tuned!
