Storms Coming In Waves, More Rain Overnight Into Tuesday

As my earlier post reported, we are under a level 2 risk for flooding rainfall tonight through midday on Tuesday.  There has been some street flooding, but fortunately the breaks between storms has allowed pumps to keep up.  There are no fronts around and I believe what's triggering these rain bursts is a split in the upper air flow right over us that enhances low level lift.

We should see a longer break this evening before another upper disturbance back over Mexico starts the cycle all over again. The lime green circles indicate the areas under the split upper flow.

As the southern disturbance races by us tomorrow, it should drag down some cooler and drier air for Wednesday & Thursday.  The very high dew points coupled with Spring Like warm air fuels the widespread storms along the northern Gulf coast.  The air behind the frontal boundary is noticeably cooler, but the super cold (teens) will stay well to our north.

In fact, if the sun returns for Wednesday & Thursday, we'll flirt with 80 degrees.  Yet another southern stream system will bring a strong cold front late Friday with more storms before the weekend turns cooler & drier.  Keep up/pay attention to the weather this evening through midday Tuesday.  Make sure your phone has the FOX 8 Weather App in case warnings are issued.  Stay tuned!
