When It's Quiet, Get Creative...

During my career, I always felt I was a superior storyteller combining an entertaining delivery with an educating style that explained the WHYS of meteorology.  The challenge for weathercasters comes when the weather goes quiet for days.  How do you keep the home folks tuning in?  Be creative & use your time to be a teacher.  Let me try.  For now, nothing is going on until NEXT week.  So what can I show you that's "unusual" weather-wise?  How about the deep East Coast that has brought us very dry air and cleared out the whole Gulf of Mexico.

The northerly winds have even cleared out the Yucatan Peninsula with only hints of a return flow over south Texas.  You can see how chilly it remains up north with temps in the 30s & 40s. yet another upper low dips to the SE over Hudson Bay.

Taking a closer look and you'll find quite a snow cover lingering across Minnesota & Wisconsin. You can tell it's snow on the ground when you can see the rivers. But there's more says Lee Zurik...

A tighter zoomed in satellite view finds several fires burning (orange arrows).  You can also see the muddy waters from our cresting Mississippi River.  Look closer and you'll see the muddy waters of Lake Pontchartrain have been pushed off the North Shore due to the northerly winds.  I'm not done.

It's been a fairly wet Winter across most of the country with only a few pockets (New Mexico & Iowa) staying in excessive drought.  All of California has no current drought issues and more storms are coming.  Look out into the Pacific.

This will not be a pretty Easter weekend for most of the West Coast as storm after storm will bring them more rain and snow at higher elevations. There's also a band of heavy rains drenching the East Coast.  Is that enough stuff to show you?  Are you ready to be bored?

Locally, the center of the surface high will be over us tonight allowing winds to decrease.  Since the air is so dry (dew points in the 20s & 30s), clear skies and light winds should allow morning lows to dip into the 40s away from Lake P. with some upper 30s far north (McComb, Poplarville).  Right now, it's comfortable outside, but after the sun set, your need sweaters & jackets.

If you're telling me you don't like today's weather, then you are someone who cannot be happy.  All day sunshine plus low humidity, wow what a feeling!

Our next front won't arrive until late next Wednesday.  Temperatures will gradually warm up and we'll be feeling summer-like by Monday.  Enjoy.  Stay tuned!
