Erin Becomes Monster Cat. 5, Steady As She Goes On Turn To North. GFS Has Gulf Threat.

NHC guidance yesterday indicated Hurricane Erin would become a major storm, but not overnight!  Erin went from a Cat. 1 Hurricane yesterday with 75 mph sustained winds to a Cat. 5 (160 mph) this morning!  Not sure I've ever seen a storm blow up overnight like that.  Ida was close, and look at the satellite comparisons with Ida on top at landfall. Both have well-defined eyes & eyewalls.

Erin is likely to get a little stronger, going well north of Puerto Rico before she weakens some passing west of Bermuda.

The models & NHC's forecast track remain the same, taking Erin between the U.S. and Bermuda.  Let's hope that turns out to be reality, since this storm would have catastrophic impacts if it hit any land areas.

There is another weak low off the Carolina coasts that NHC gives a slight (10%) chance to develop.  Otherwise, the Gulf is most clear.

I will push my new Podcast that began 5 days ago.  Frankly, I am disappointed more of you have not subscribed since you can see and hear me like during my working years.  Kind of fun to expand on my FB static maps.  Suggest you give it a try.  A bargain for $2/month.

I say that because the GFS is at it again, bringing our next storm into the Gulf. The top is valid for Tuesday, August 26, with the bottom valid for Wednesday, the 27th.

Now wouldn't you love to hear my voice and what I think?    Come join the new Bob Breck Podcast before the threat gets into the Gulf.  Stay tuned!
