Podcast May Start Sooner, No Immediate Concerns, Tropical Activity Ramping Up

We are scheduled to launch the Bob Breck podcast this coming Monday, August 11th.  After watching Zack show a tropical wave moving into the eastern Gulf this Saturday, we may need to move up the debut to Saturday or Sunday.  Thanks to all of you who have already signed up.  You'll receive an email update alerting you that a new Podcast is available and a link to access it.  But you have to subscribe for $2/month ($24/yr) to receive these podcasts.  My free WVUE Facebook page will not go away.  The 10-15 minute podcast will allow me to expand on my blog post, giving my views, which sometimes are different than NWS & NHC's views.  So If you want to hear my voice and feel my concerns, subscribe today.

As Tropical Storm Dexter continues to move out to sea, NHC is focused on a new area where models suggest some development this week.

Fortunately, anything that might form is east of Florida and is likely to drift towards the Carolina coasts.  The other area NHC is watching is way out in the Atlantic.

Satellite views show the ITCZ from Trinidad eastward into Africa, and some Saharan Dust is still visible.  However, that dust layer is beginning to back off as more waves are showing up over interior Africa.

I've dashed in the ITCZ with several waves.  No model is currently bullish on developing any of them.  However, the waves still over Africa are developed by the models.  We begin with the GFS Valid for Sunday 8-17.

It is the fastest of the model solutions, and that's still 12 days out.  The A.I. & Euro are slower and farther to the south. The A.I is on top.  Both are valid for Wednesday 8-20.

Should we be concerned with seeing these solutions?  Nah, too far out & high uncertainty.  What it is telling us is we're getting to "pay attention" time as the models are seeing something.  If this trend continues daily, then I'll tell you I'm concerned, but not yet.   What I have done is make sure I have supplies of canned foods & water to last 7+ days. So should you.

For this week, the only concerns should be along the East Coast, where a weak system will interact with a leftover frontal boundary.

Some drier air has moved across the northern states, but for the Southeast, it's still August and too early for any fronts to sweep through.

There's quite a cluster of storms over SE LA/MS.  These are slow movers resulting in 1-2"+ amounts.

A few folks are getting cooling relief, and more of the same is expected during the next 7 days.  Next week, a Tropical Wave could move into the eastern Gulf, increasing our rain chances.  It's a good reason to sign up now for the BOB Breck Podcast coming next week.

I won't be wearing a coat & tie!  It'll just be Bob being Bob.  Stay tuned!
