Cold Preps Should be Done, Hard Freeze North, Light Freeze South

I could never figure out why, each year, local weathercasters say wrap your pipes.  You should never unwrap your pipes except to make repairs or to re-wrap due to the tape/wrapping deteriorating due to the summer heat. The coldest air of the season is coming, and I thought I'd review our winter weather guidelines.  Let's begin with the "pipe rule," which was told to me the the late Mickey Scholl, a master plumber back in the late 70s.  The 2 keys are the temperature & the DURATION.

I have already prepared my house for sale with these faucet covers.  I will not run/drip the water unless the low temps are projected to be lower than 28.  Here's what Hannah Gard showed us this morning.

Look at your location to determine whether you need to run the water Sunday night into Monday Morning.  Based on what I'm seeing, those of us south of Lake P. will NOT have to drip the water.  It's a different story north & west of the Lake.  Fortunately, this will be a brief cold event.

Unless the upper trough deepens, the core of the brutal cold will stay to our north & east. In the short term, this afternoon will be near perfect, and I will be strolling the FQ with Valerie & our friend Mindy.

If you're down in the Quarter & happen to see us, don't be afraid to say hi & tell Valerie thank you for bringing Bob back!  In the short term, this afternoon will be near perfect.

The temperature graphic shows that the new surge of Arctic air has reached St. Louis and will arrive here before daybreak on Sunday.  The highs are likely to be around 8 AM with steady & falling temps most of the day.

This will be the last 70+ day until next Wednesday when our next warm-up happens.  So you still have the rest of this afternoon to prepare for the freeze.  Finally,

Valerie has given me a reason to look forward to each day.  In addition, the sunrises at Copeland Tower continue to amaze me.  Christmas has come early to the Breckster!  Stay tuned!
