Spring-like Weekend...

With Meteorological Winter beginning on Saturday, Mother Nature will throw us a change up as temperatures will approach record highs. Don't get use to it as a strong cold front arrives Monday morning bringing us back to reality. Historically, we begin to worry about hard freezes (23 or lower) on the Southshore on Dec. 12th. That threat won't be over until the middle of February. So now is the time to prepare your property for the worst of Old Man Winter.

Friday ends the 2007 Hurricane Season. That threat ended for us back in early October. There were 14 named storms, but 9 of them lasted 2 days or less and most did not cross any land areas. Hopefully we can have another quiet year for us next year as the state and Army Corps of Engineers rebuild our coast. We are better protected now but still have a long way to go.

We just finished the Fall rating period and I'm proud to say that FOX 8 is the number 2 watched station in News and sign on to sign off. We are no where close to WWL-TV, but they have triple the resources compared to us. Thank all of you for sticking with Channel 8 during the difficult times after Katrina.

Bob,
I think channel 8 is second because of you, everyone's favorite weatherman. You tell us the facts and the history. I was working with a Spanish man on my house yesterday. We were wondering if it was going to rain Monday because we had some outdoor work to do..What did this man who could barely speak English say.."I'll have to check with Bob Breck"..It cracked me up, I said yep, my favorite guy too:)

Dear Bob I just read your DEC 1 blog and I can't believe you are #2
Trust me it is ONLY because of the resources. You are #1 on my list even though I can't get you in Denham. However I always turn to your blog and catch up on REAL hurricane reporting or if I have to REALLY protect my pipes I check with you. keep on truckin Bob

Bob, Congrats on the successful ratings! I'm a native New Orleanian transplanted to the MS Gulf Coast, and was displaced from Gulfport to Biloxi after Katrina. We have Fox 8 on CableOne in Gulfport at the radio station where I work, but we're stuck with the Gawd-awful Fox affiliate over here with the Mobile Fox 10 in Biloxi, so I went an purchased an outdoor antenna and get your beautiful digital signal via the airwaves now so I can catch your 9pm news/weathercasts. You are the best! You probably had the chance several times over your many years at 'VUE to jump to WWL, they are blessed to have you, and the ratings prove it!
