Hello August...Hurry up October !

Yep, we're here. Historically, August & September for us sees the highest number of hurricanes. Once into October, cold fronts start coming (sometimes even in late September!) and that starts the process of cooling down the gulf waters, the heat source for tropical systems. Computer models for the next 10-14 days show a continuation of East Coast troughs keeping the axis of the Atlantic Ridge(Bermuda High) far to our south. What that means for us is any storms moving across the Caribbean would be forced to stay well south of us and head into Mexico or South Texas. Storms approaching the coast east of Florida would be forced to turn northward, again away from us. Hopefully this pattern stays locked in. It would mean we could start seeing early season cold fronts by mid-September. Wouldn't that be nice!

Tonight there are no tropical systems that show signs of development. Friday looks stormy in the PM with fewer storms on Sat-Sun.

What are your thoughts on that blob in the northeastern GOM. Do we need to be worried? Thanks!
