Fay May Turn Fickle ?...

It has been a while since we had a tropical system due "goofy" things. We all remember Betsy's making a loop out in the Atlantic in 1965...but how about the 1985 season? First on Labor Day weekend, we had Hurricane Elena approach and then turn to the east making us feel safe. But nooooo, she stalls off the Coast from Tampa for 2 days before heading back towards Louisiana making landfall to our east near Biloxi. Then there was Juan on Halloween when he became the "pretzel storm" making a double loop off the Louisiana coast. How about Danny stalling over Mobile for 3 days back in 1997 soaking folks with over 40 inches of rain (no kiddin').

It appears Fay is heading northward into south Florida tonight and that was expected. However, computer models are not in agreement down the road. An upper trough to the north will lift out allowing a high pressure ridge to build in ahead of Fay. That could block her movement offshore of Florida and force her back to the west. It's waaaaay too soon to buy into that scenario. In the short term, Fay makes landfall near midnight and moves inland over Florida during the day tomorrow. Hopefully she continues that northward movement all the way into Georgia and gives them a good soaking as they still are way below normal rain wise. I'll have another update around 10 PM after NHC comes out with their new track.
