I noticed a big cloud cluster in the lower western Gulf, is there any chance of that developing? Would it affect the track of Gustov any?
Geez, you look at current satellite and there are 3 big clusters of clouds/storms almost parallel with each other.
Tropic are truly active!!!

Please everybody read this article that was posted on abc news.com about the hurricane and read the horrible comments posted. I am horrified by most of them and that we live in the United States and people feel this away about us.

I agree Kelly it is truly terrible... I'm not even sure what to say after reading some of those comments.. I am losing faith in people more and more. Never thought I would be cynical by the age of 26...

The people on that ABC thing are just hateful. I totally agree with all the comments made by our friends in New Orleans that support us in this critical time.

You are level headed and give the best, most thorough and I think accurate information. Keep up the great work! You are appreciated! You are my first choice for hurricane information now!
Listen, we have enough to worry about without worrying about the opinions of others.
Frankly, it should surprise no one that some people are just awful, hateful human beings. Thankfully, they are in the minority. It's just that the anonymity of the internet permits them to spread their wings, so to speak.
If it really bugs you, try to remember the thousands of good Americans who called in sick, packed up their cars and drove straight into the heart of the disaster when we needed them because our government had failed us.
Call me an optimist, but I believe they greatly outnumber the shortsighted, selifsh jerkwads.
After looking at the loop satellite, it sure seems like something is up in the lower Western Gulf. There seems to be that outflow of clouds developing that are associated with tropic systems.
It seems to have a westward movement but it could just be developing into a more organized storm.

HURRICANE SUPPLY LIST
Not sure I agree with half the stuff on that list. Do you really need a compass? Come on do you expect to be picked up by the hurricane and dropped off in the middle of no where? Gas for your grill, what? I think a tailgate party is the last thing on everyone's minds after a hurricane, nor grilling those Omaha Steaks in the freezer after you lost everything. Some of the stuff would come in handy but then again won't really matter anyway because you didn't bring your presrcription meds because they were not on the list. All that is need to be on that list is common sense.
There are a number of things I am curious about as Gustav begins to move along it's projected track.
Yes there is an area of disturbed weather (in the Bay of Campeche) that the NHC says has low probability of formation and how will that impact Gustav.
More importantly though is now Tropical Storm Hannah.
There is an a called the Fujiwara effect: Here is an explanation:
"....motion of vortexes in open waters. He explained that when two cyclones, of at least tropical storm wind speeds, come within 900 miles of each other there is a strange effect on their centers. The eyes will attract each other and begin to orbit together at a specific point between the two systems. This attraction will eventually lead to the storms merging and forming a storm of catastrophic proportions. If the storms are of unequal size, the larger one is the more dominant leaving the smaller vortex to orbit around it. Sometimes the storms will stay together, or their interaction may be brief. The final merging of the two storms is rare, but entirely possible"
I want to know Bob's opinion on whether the fujiwara effect could potentially effect either of these storms.

Extra prescription medicine is the 5th thing on that list. A compass is probably not the most important item to have, but gas for your grill might be if you have no electricity or gas to work your stove after a storm.
How about this, instead of criticizing this list you suggest another list that we can post to help people out? We will post credible lists to help out visitors of this website.

We are all a little frazzled right now and I think Caveman was just venting a bit. Maybe because this is one of the first times (on the blog or otherwise) we have been apprised to take precaution. The resounding message from Bob is that he is not worried "yet" and that there is no information to be concerned about "right now." He sort of said being in the middle of the track is something desirable and that the tracks will most assuredly change.
I believe last night's weather cast required the anchor's admonition afterward that the station recommends they follow the authorities directives. That was probably a result of Bob's "don't be alarmed yet" approach.
Just seems to me that shooting for the last possible moment to call it a threat is pretty irresponsible. I am disappointed, particularly in light of the knowledge that SE Louisiana citizens are pretty gun shy these days.
Hope he is right about that. Really, I do. Moreover, I hope that we don't have some folks who have passed opportunities to leave because they were "too early to tell" and find themselves stuck here... in the event that he is wrong.
In a post-Katrina environment, we should all err on the side of caution where possible. How has that been forgotten in just three short years?
The only time it's too late to prepare is when the storm is actually happening.

We never got outrageous news from them for 'Katrina', until she was right on us. help me here, I'm trying to keep a cool head, but the Gov. and Mayor, and parish presidents, are really scaring me.... I don't want to seem like a baby, but waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa.... =(
