Please do not try to come home yet because...UNLESS you have the level 1 or 2 pass that will allow you to get in. Many people are trying to come back and are being turned away. There still is little power back and gas stations need power to pump gas. So what's happening? People are running out of gas on the interstate and it's gridlock around Slidell & Laplace and other check points where folks are trying to sneak back in. Please wait until the official all clear is given and that MAY come Wednesday, but it's more likely on Thursday. If it were me, I'd wait an extra day so you're not caught in the traffic jams that are sure to happen that first day when the OK is given. REPEAT...you can't come home yet.
Locally we are dealing with heavy T-Storms and many tornado warnings on the Northshore. In addition, river flooding is expected on all rivers on the Northshore. In Orleans & Jefferson power is slowly being restored, but the heavy storms are not helping the repair crews. It's much worse down towards the coast & in Terrebonne & LaFourche Parishes. Power may not be back for 1-2 weeks in those locations
Tropical wise we have 3 new systems to track. The hypsters will already start to scare you, but these systems are so far away that they could go up the east coast or stay thru the Caribbean into the southern Gulf and into Mexico or Texas. Bottomline...save your energy for when we may need it again. We are approaching the peak (Sept. 10th) of the hurricane season and will watch these new systems closely. Way too soon to get nervous. Thanks for your trust.
I marvel that people around the world can now follow our broadcasts on the internet. (guy in France!) If ever again you must leave...take FOX 8 with you. My thanks to my oldest son for keeping up this web site. As you can see, we have no sponsors.

Thanks!
I've only lived in New Orleans for 2 years, and I was glued to Fox 8 online and your work Sunday night into Monday.
Your voice of optimism and hope kept many people going.
Thanks again, can't wait to get home!
Warmer seas due to global warming are causing increased tropical activity, as proof just look at what women would wear back in the 1800's under their dresses as compared to the thongs they wear now... global warming is real!
Gustav hurt us because I have a feeling many people will stay and not evacuate for the next storm not matter what the intensity forcast is for it.
caveman...watch Bob's speech on the very subject of global warming given almost a year ago at the following link: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-2230209767554616723 Enjoy it, it is REALLY GOOD!
Hey Bob,
Thanks for all of the years of accurate forecasts and great entertainment. I remember seeing your first weathercast in New Orleans 30(or more?) years ago when I was middle school age. Keep up the good work!
Jim
Hi Bob,
We've been watching you via the web in Birmingham and the updates on your blog and the stations webpage have been a big help in deciding where we would go when. We're coming back to the city with gas, supplies, and most importantly a good idea of what we are in for.
thank you, thank you, thank you.
