A large area of T-Storms persists over the Dominican Republic & Puerto Rico and computer models are predicting this system will develop into Tropical Storm Kyle in the next 1-2 days. All models take this system up the east coast and turn it back towards D.C. or Long Island. Wouldn't that be something for a strong Tropical system to move up Chesapeake Bay and bring them the kind of misery the Gulf Coast has endured with Fay, Gustav & Ike. Perhaps only then will they realize our need for federal help in rebuilding our wetlands is real? I don't wish any ill will on anybody, but it might be one way to get the attention of the Washington politicians.
Looking ahead...longer range models are predicting a deeper east coast trough to develop next week that will carry into October. That should protect us from any tropical systems plus it'll bring down much cooler air. Could we be done with this year's hurricane season? Things are finally looking brighter. I can't wait to get out my sweaters!

Bob, you're the only weather forecaster I know of that isn't whining about cooler temps headed this way. Kudos! :-D
Did you know that a major hurricane makes landfall in New York City every 70 years? The last major hurricane was the Long Island Express from 1938, and we are in the 2008 hurricane season. It seems kind of eerie that a tropical system might effect or make landfall in the northeast.
