Fronts keep Coming...

The first 20 days of September brought us nearly a foot of rain (11.17") making 2008 the 6th wettest at New Orleans Louie Armstrong International. This despite the fact the last 10 days of the month had no rain. As we say good bye to September and hello to our driest month October, I'm very confident our tropical season is over. Oh we might see a weak storm develop over the southern Gulf, but the westerly winds have arrived on time and that should turn any storms well to our east. Remember we can get a late season storm (Juan 1985), however, as water temperatures cool, the possibility of seeing anything major becomes HIGHLY UNLIKELY. In modern record keeping (1850-2008), there has NEVER been a hurricane cross the Louisiana coast in November.

So now our concern will turn to when will the first freeze happen? Historically, it's not until well into December for the Southshore, so for the next 6-8 weeks...let's enjoy the best of Mother Nature. After this storm season, we have certainly earned it !

Thanks, Bob. Your confidence for the past week that our hurricane season is over has been such a relief. I've been quoting you to all my friends. IT'S OVER!! HURRAY!!

In 1995 we moved from Metairie to Waldheim on the North Shore. In the middle of October, not a month after we moved, we had a severe freeze that lasted several days if I'm not mistaken. Nothing like that since and I really hope we don't repeat history this year!
What a 'welcome to the North Shore' that was.
