While much of the Great Lakes & North East shivers tonight, some of that cold air is diving southward with parts of the Northshore & Mississippi Gulf Coast expected to drop to near freezing by daybreak. It appears a pattern is developing that could make for a very cold winter east of the Rockies. Remember those brutal winters of 1977 & 78? We really haven't seen anything like that during the past 30+ years. Perhaps a return to a colder "cycle" is happening? I would suggest we might even see a hard freeze over most of the Gulf South that'll rival the great freeze of December 1989. Armstrong Int'l dipped to 11 degrees with Audubon Park stopping at 12 degrees. Most citrus trees were destroyed all the way down into southern Plaquemines Parish. We stayed below freezing for something like 72+ hours. Hopefully we won't see anything that bad?
I've changed out my shorts for sweaters since I know what's coming. You should too!

Welcome back Bob. If the centers of polar high pressure settle in right over us later in the season as this one did this week, yeah baby...a rerun of holiday season 1989!
Now this was the type of cold front I was talking about...Free Air Conditioning!!!
The day the front hit it was very windy out with the trees going back n forth, gusts up to 40mph...loved it...and now we have that crisp cool air in place....I hope it stays for a while...most fronts are here's your hat, whats your hurry...not this one.
Hope we do have a cold winter...we are overdue...break out the leather jackets!!!
