Late Season Storms...

NHC named the 13th storm this afternoon way down over the southern Gulf in the Bay of Campeche. It won't last long as by this time tomorrow Marco should be on land in Mexico. These late season storms often develop over the southern Gulf & western Caribbean, but rarely do they head northward towards us. Long range computer guidance doesn't bring any strong (sweaters & jackets) cold fronts during the next 10-14 days, however there will be several weak fronts coming that will lower humidity once again. It sure seems the "Fat Lady" has sung as far as we are concerned for this year. It's time for the Corps & Congress to ramp up their committment in rebuilding SE Louisiana. Before June 1st of 2009, the MRGO should be closed with a rock jetty/structure and the new barrier wall should be in place closing off the MRGO & Intercoastal from the Industrial Canal. Little by little we are getting safer, but we must rebuild the coast if we ever want true protection.

Hey Bob,

Thanks for the great news. Isn't it funny, how when things are bad, a ton of people write, but when things are good, nobody writes a comment Guess everyone loves the drama. Personally, I love the nice cool weather and hope for more to come soon.

They need to knock down the Westbank levee. Even if it's just in some key places. I know westbankers don't like to hear that but, rebuilding the coast is futile if sediment deposits from the river aren't allowed to sustain it. Otherwise, the Gulf will wash it all away again.

That was what built the coast to begin with and that is what it's going to take to rebuild and sustain it.
