Geez...I don't need to tell you that June 1st is Monday. Seems everyone is asking you to "get a game plan"..."get ready now!" and FOX 8 will join in with "Weathering the Storm 2009" airing Monday night at 7 PM right after Wheel of Fortune. NHC was itching to get the season rolling early with TD # 1, but the system quickly raced out over cooler water temperatures and Ana appears not likely to be named just yet. My advice is simple...1) if you leave, know where you're going and how you can get there with several alternate routes. 2) if you choose to stay, Armor you home, have a full house generator for power after the storm & elevate your home or have a second story to go to if water rises. Emergency Managers suggest to leave early to avoid contra-flow and possible gridlock, however, I'm aware evacuation is expensive and many folks cannot afford multiple evacuations. As Always, I will try not to frighten you, but enlighten you with all the information from NHC, NWS & Emergency managers plus my opinions tempered by nearly 40 years experience tracking Storms. I am honored by your trust in me and will work hard to continue to earn that trust. WEATHERING THE STORM 2009 Monday night 7 pm on FOX 8.
An upper trough over the eastern states has brought a late season front through us into the Gulf. Less humid air will hang around for the next 2-3 days. Enjoy cuz you know what's coming.

Thanks Bob. As usual we/I will depend on you to be the voice of reason in a chorus of hysteria.
I think one of the biggest problems for me is that the media does put that fear into one's soul. I mean on June 1st yahoo.com had a story talking about storms that usually develop off Africa in the Cape Verde season may not occur this year and storms may form closer to the coast. Now is this the media just informing us or trying to scare us...like that is what is going to happen this year.
Meanwhile words like maybe, if, might and could be are used in every story...which to me is where the fear comes in...puts us in a panic mode before it ever happens because it could happen.
Every year storms form in different areas of the Gulf, Atlantic and Carribean.
I read a story in our local paper saying to stock up on supplies in one sentence and get ready to evacuate in the next. Now make up your mind why don't you.
And my biggest pet peeve...Okay the local government orders an evacutation, but there is the news media with a camera getting the story. For example the Weather Channel sending out one of their weatherman out into the storm just so we can see the wind shake trees and see debris flying around....
Still love the line from NBC morning news after one hurricane and he said...Look there goes Dan Rather. I mean how ridiculous was that....to go to the coast, hang on to a pole and broadcast live....
Does anyone think that news people are exempt from dying in a storm???
Sorry not trying to knock anyone in particular...but I've seen some stupid stuff over the years.
I think your simple advice is all that is needed, we all have been through this many times and storms need to be reported properly.
Now where is my copy Jimmy Buffett's song...Trying to Reason with Hurricane Season....
