In the Fall & Winter months, a strong area of low pressure (Polar Vortex) develops in the upper atmosphere over the Great Lakes & Northeast. It leads to bitter Arctic cold plunging southward out of Canada into the lower 48 states. The current upper pattern looks very similar with an unusually deep low swirling over the Great Lakes. That circulation is bringing fronts much farther southward displacing the Atlantic Ridge (Bermuda High) way down over the Caribbean. This also brings fast westerly winds across the Gulf. The result is a very hostile environment for any tropical development and that likely will continue for the next 10-14 days. Great news if you're planning a holiday weekend trip to the beaches.
The good feel air we had around today probably will be gone during the day on Wednesday as the Gulf muggies return. Hey, it was nice while it lasted. We need to get into our typical summertime pattern of SE winds bringing deep tropical moisture that bubbles daily T-Storms. For the year we are now 11+" below average(normal) on rainfall. We need those daily storms just to keep us from that brutal near 100 degree heat.

well it could be a sign that the north and northeast may not have a summer this year....then where will all the GW pundants be...not to mention that Bill thats going to tax us to save the planet....what a crock of....
Pool temp is hoovering around 90...sure is some warm almost bath temp....would be nice to put some ice in it...

I was just pointing out that up north...like by the Great Lakes...sure doesnt seem like summer up there.
the upper level low that is between the Yucatan and Cuba has already shown signs of development. This morning clustering had occurred around the center of the low. Upper level moisture content was apparently lacking, but may not be so when it enters the Gulf of Mexico. A very small upper level system could be enough to nudge it northward once in the Gulf. THE UPPER LEVEL LOW BETWEEN THE YUCATAN AND CUBA SHOWED SIGNS OF DEVELOPMENT THIS MORNING. THOUGH UPPER LEVEL MOISTURE CONTENT WAS LACKING, THIS MAY NOT BE SO ONCE ENTERING G.O.M. A VERY SMALL UPPER LEVEL FEATURE COULD STEAR IT NORTHWARD ONCE IN GULF. STAY ON GUARD. GOD BLESS!

What you been smokin' Matt? An upper low (cold core) moving westward fairly quickly will not turn into a tropical system. But, even if it did, we have the strong upper high in Texas expected to build eastward...BLOCKING any northward movement. No Camille coming from this system Matt. See tonight's update.
