Today is my Mother's 85th birthday and I was hoping to celebrate with my family. My Mother has been doing much better recently after giving us another "scare" back in February. Unfortunately, Mom has not been well in the 2 days that I've been here. Just like my Dad in his last days, it's difficult watching the elderly struggle with all the aches & pains of old age. When I was younger I always wondered what the saying "Youth is wasted on the young" meant. Now that I'm almost a "senior", I understand that THE most important gift in life is health...not money...not fancy houses...not shoes & clothes...no, health is wealth. Those of you with aging parents know what I mean. Why they have to suffer is beyond our knowledge. It's "His will be done", not ours. I will try to perk her up this afternoon as my sister is bringing over a cake. Being here with my Mom allows me to appreciate the care givers who help her daily. I know some of you are caring for members of your family. It's hard, but it's the right thing to do.
I'll be back on-air at FOX 8 on Monday. In the meantime, appreciate your youth

My prayers are with you and your family.
Well Happy Birthday to Bob's mom, I hope she gets better and has many more years of life.
Bob you are right health is wealth and the biggest key to longevity. My mom died this past May of Lymphoma, something she really had been fighting for the last 2 years and she really didnt know it. Doctors didn't diagnosed till it was too late...only 8 weeks before she died. She was 74 while she made in the hospital.
When a parent or family member dies, you question your own mortality...and how long will you have. You realize life is such a precious gift. So make the best of each day.
Happy Birthday to your Mom!! My mom's birthday is today also. She would have been 75. She died last summer.
Lost mom to cancer when she was a young 57...robbery. But dad celebrates his 87th next month...Bob you are so right. Thanks for sharing and Happy Birthday to your mom.
